Forage fish species, such as herring and mackerel, are an important part of the marine ecosystem and support many of Canada’s commercial fisheries. To improve forage fish management, Canada must take an ecosystem-based approach to rebuilding their depleted populations and managing these species in light of climate change and the needs of other species in the ecosystem.
