Mi’kma’ki/Nova Scotia – For the month of May, the Ecology Action Centre is hosting Membership May – a series of events throughout Nova Scotia to celebrate the EAC community and help environmentally minded individuals connect with their work.

“Membership May is a chance for the EAC to celebrate the communities and individuals who make our work possible,” says Carly Hominuk, relationship development coordinator with the EAC. “We want to create opportunities for people who care about the environment to meet one another, connect with our work and celebrate the fair, vibrant future we fight for every day.”

Events are scheduled with partners all throughout the province, including a launch party at Good Robot in Kjipuktuk/Halifax on Friday, May 5, a kelp farming information session at Laughing Whale in Lunenburg on Monday, May 15, an electric vehicle test drive event at the EAC office on Thursday, May 25 and more.

“We’ve got so many options for people to take part,” says Hominuk. “Whether you want to take a guided hike through the Sandy Lake Regional Park with our Wilderness Team, learn about kelp as a sustainable income source for coastal communities, or meet some of our staff and try your hand at environmental trivia at our event in Sydney, Membership May has a bit of something for everyone.”

Hominuk says the events offer a chance to learn more about what the EAC does and invite new people into the organization as volunteers and members, but also to celebrate the environmental movement in Nova Scotia in general.

“There is such amazing work happening across this province to build a better future – one of respect, belonging and ecological resilience,” says Hominuk. “We want to show people the EAC’s place within that broader movement and invite them to join our work. Even in the face of such huge challenges like the climate and biodiversity crises, communities still find ways to lift each other up and remain hopeful. We think that’s worth celebrating!”
